The history of the classic Signet ring dates back to the 13th century where it was used as a signature on official documents. These massive rings have been used by men for thousands of years. The ring was especially popular amongst Royalty and was also worn by Danish Kings, like King Frederik IX.
Actually, it was not until the 17th. century that the Signet ring became a more common ornament to wear among “normal” people. Back then the Signet ring was a symbol, which people connected with social status and normally there would be initials or family crest engraved in the ring.

The founders of Frederik IX Studio always had a fascination of King Frederik IX who they perceived to have a classic style. A man who loved the life at the sea and, like other true seamen, adorned himself with tattoos. A king who was down to earth and spend some of his time among “normal” people – from those at the pubs in Nyhavn, to native tribes in Africa. And so, he was known as the King of the people. As a result, Frederik IX and his Swedish Queen, Queen Ingrid, became the symbol of visionary monarchs. Back in the days they were the founders of a community that created relationships between the royal universe and the Danish population. It’s this mission of bilding a bridge between the past and the present that is the root of the Danish jewellery brand named after the king, namely Frederik IX Studios.
